Custom fragrance development means creating a product's scent around its application, audience and brand identity, either from scratch or by adapting an existing fragrance, instead of picking one from a catalogue. At Ottoria Esans we develop fragrances for products from perfume and deodorant to soap, detergent and candles, and flavours for confectionery and food.
How is a custom fragrance developed?
- Brief: product type (e.g. liquid soap, room spray, cologne), target fragrance family, inspirations, target cost and dosage are defined.
- Sample options: several fragrance options are prepared to match the brief and sent as samples.
- Application testing: the fragrances are tested in your base (e.g. shampoo, candle wax, detergent) for longevity, discolouration and stability.
- Fine tuning: intensity, notes and dosage are adjusted based on your feedback.
- Approval and supply: the approved formula is recorded so repeat orders deliver the same scent consistently.
Which products do we develop fragrances for?
| Area | Example products |
|---|---|
| Perfumery | Perfume, cologne, deodorant, body mist |
| Personal care | Liquid soap, shower gel, shampoo, cream, lotion |
| Home and cleaning | Surface cleaner, detergent, fabric softener |
| Home fragrance | Candles, room spray, reed diffuser |
| Food | Confectionery, Turkish delight, chewing gum, dessert and beverage flavours |
Why a product-specific fragrance?
The same fragrance behaves differently in different bases: a note that is balanced in a perfume can be suppressed in soap or change as a candle burns. Developing for the product ensures the scent performs in real use and gives your brand a recognisable signature.
The international reference for fragrances used in cosmetics and household products is the set of standards published by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA); dosages are recommended with these standards and the product category in mind.
